It is challenging to even the most skilled yoga practice because you constantly bend further or stretch longer to push your body’s limitations. It can free your mind and allow your body to do wonderful things and now it is even further enhanced by people choosing to do water yoga. To some, this may seem like a silly idea, but others say that it is the best experience they have ever had. The question you may be asking if you haven’t tried it is going to be, “Is water yoga a real thing?” The answer to this big question is, “Yes.”

What Is Water Yoga?

Water yoga is the same as dry yoga, but you have fewer floor positions, for obvious reasons. In the pool, you will stretch out your body and then assume some of the standing positions, which may include creating a “T” using your body bent forward with a leg stretched out behind you. There are many people who have attempted water yoga and most all of them say that it is easier for them to assume some positions in the water, but they also admit that there is still a lot of challenges to doing it as well.

It is relaxing and enjoyable. In the water, it is also challenging because of the fact that the water movements will make your body work harder to balance in some positions. If you are not able to balance well to start with, this could make it unsafe, but with that, you have the option to use a pool noodle or something else to help you stay above water. If that does not give you enough sure-footed confidence and you have an above ground pool, you can always hold onto the side until you have improved your balance well enough to achieve some of the more difficult poses.

Is It Effective?

water yogaOverall, most people say that traditional, dry yoga is great and water yoga is even more effective. The water makes it easier for your mind and body to relax. This makes it easier for you to stretch out before doing yoga poses and for you to reach a meditative state if you are hoping to do so. The water will also relax your muscles so that you are going to be able to bend further into some of the poses or reach further in others. You may also benefit from less pain after the most strenuous of poses where you are normally stretching your muscles beyond their comfort level. The biggest challenge is the balance issue, which also gives you a stronger inner core. The more people you have in the pool making slight movements; the better your balance workout will become. In general, you should give it a try and see if it is going to work for you, but most people say that it is the perfect way to do yoga.
